Aire Wharfe Monday evening summary

Having won the 1st division title the last 3 years Guiseley ‘A’ had to settle for 2nd place to local rivals Rufford. Despite a great last result for Guiseley against Bramley 26-4, Rufford won away at Farsley 22-8 to win the league by 3 points.
We look forward to doing battle again next season.

In Division 3 Guiseley ‘B’ team finished level with Menston top of the table but just lost out by aggregate. We still win promotion back to division 2 so well done to all the players.

Aire-wharfe Monday evening league update

The ‘A’ team are hoping to overturn local rivals Rufford at the top of the Aire-Wharfe Division 1 for the 3rd year running. The last 2 years have seen Guiseley behind Rufford on the last match of the season and Guiseley have managed to get the wins needed to just win the league.

This season is looking tighter than ever but Guiseley did themselves a big favour with a 25-5 win at home to Ilkley whilst Rufford ‘A’ beat their ‘B’ team 20-10. There is now only 4 points in it at the top but Rufford play at home next week whilst Guiseley play away at Rawdon. The week after though, Guiseley play at home to Rufford, there will be lots of twists and turns to come.

The ‘B’ team are 2nd in Division 3 hoping for promotion again to Division 2.

Bradford league update – Guiseley ‘B’ top the Riley league

The Saturday ‘B’ team are favourites to win the Bradford Riley league having won at second placed West Royd on Saturday 17-13.

They are now 11 points ahead of West Royd with 1 game in hand. They play West Royd again on Saturday knowing a win will push them closer to the title.

The ‘A’ team got back to form with a 24-6 win against Pudsey ‘B’. They are now 3rd in the Godwin league but have played 1 game more than the teams just below them.

The ‘C’ team are trying to avoid relegation from the Naylor Packaging league, They are currently third from bottom.

‘A’ TEAM REACHES MARIA OGDEN FINAL

Having lost in the Henry Taylor Cup the day before, Guiseley ‘A’ team took on local rivals and holders Rufford at Wharfemeadows in the Maria Ogden cup semi-final.

Guiseley won the first 2 blocks meaning they only needed 1 win from the remaining 3. The first winners off were Richard and Joe Stockdale meaning they were in the final for the first time since 2009. We last won the competition in 2008 and will be hoping to repeat that on the 19th August.

GUISELEY OUT OF HENRY TAYLOR CUP

Guiseley ‘A’ team got knocked out of the quarter final of the Henry Taylor cup against a very good Lower Hopton ‘B’ by 33 points at Pontefract BC.

This is the end of a good run for Guiseley, good wins though for Mick Hall, Dave Leather and Andy Durkin on a lovely surface at Ponte.

Now we can concentrate on the league.

Bradford Saturday League

The ‘A’ team had a good start at home against Brighouse ‘B’ 22-8. A bad away defeat followed though, losing 25-5 at Littlemoor ‘B’. Next up for the ‘A’ team is at home to Eccleshill ‘B’. Mick Hall is the only player to have won 2 games.

The ‘B’ team have had a good start and are sitting top of the Riley League after 3 games. They started with a fantastic away win of 29-1 at Thornton and have since suffered a 11-19 defeat at Shelf and a 25-5 home win against Crowghyll ‘B’. Norman Lickley is the only player to have won 3 out of 3.

The ‘C’ team have only played 2 games and have won 1 and lost 1. Corinne Dixon is the only player to have won 2 out of 2.

Henry Taylor Cup

Guiseley ‘A’ team have reached the last 32 of the Henry Taylor Cup with a convincing win over Lockwood Cons ‘C’ on a superb green at Hill Crest. Guiseley never looked in danger and ended up winning by 60. Jeff Bolton leading the way with a excellent performance winning to 5 and Dave Norris winning to 10. Another notable win was by junior Ben Stockdale, winning to 11 on his ‘A’ team debut.
