There was some superb bowling on a crisp March night in the 4th Guiseley Triples competition.
The performance of the night was in the quarter final tie between Clayton and Spen where the pair Nigel Breadley and Paul Kaye won 21-2 to claim victory. Bradfield had a great battle with Pudsey Littlemoor just getting hom 38-36. Meersbrook were too good on the night for Asa Briggs winning 42-24 and Meenwood run out victors against Myrtle Park, despite losing the single 21-15, a great pairs victory from Ian Howard and Neil Porter 21-6 sealed the game.
In the semi finals Meersbrook beat Meanwood 41-31, Nicky Dewhirst winning the single to 20 for Meanwood, but a great pairs game saw Chris Hill and Andy Sorsby beating Ian Howard and Neil Porter to 15. In the other semi final Bradfield beat Clayton 42-32, Matt Beever just pipping Paul Gill to 20 after a great comeback by Gilly, fighting back from 17-10 and 20-15 down. In the pairs Paul Kaye and Nigel Breadley lost their first game of the week, after victories to 2, 4 and 2, they came unstuck against some excellent bowling from Andy Mailer and Gary Hanson, losing to 12.
In a all Sheffield final played in North West Leeds, it was the pair of Chris Hill and Andy Sorsby who shone to beat Mailer and Hanson to 7 leaving Matt Beever and Andy Whitaker playing for personal pride in the singles. Beever led out at 20-17 down and bowled a 1 inch bowl only for Whitaker, with his last wood, to bowl the perfect bowl with a toucher to seal a great nights bowling and excellent victory for Meersbrook.
Thanks to all the 96 players who took part in the competition and to all who helped out at Guiseley making the competition a massive success. We look forward to hosting it again in 2013, can Meersbrook be the first side to hold on to their title of Guiseley Triples Champions?
